Do What You Love....

.......And you'll never work a day in your life".

I disagree.

The inconvenient truth is, if you really love something, you WILL work every day that you can towards that something. And you will work HARDER at that thing you love, than almost anything else in your life. And, you WLLL do it until you no longer love it, or can't do it anymore.

Look at your day job. The job that pays your bills. The job you despise with every fiber of your being (this all assumes of course that you hate your job; if you don't, replace it something that you do hate).

Do you wake early and get to the job you hate earlier than you need to? No, you don't.

Unless you're compelled to, do you stay late at the job you hate? No, you don't.

Unless you're one of those "chatty pattys", or a miserable so-an-so, do you babble about that job you hate with your friends, or family? I'm gonna take a wild guess, and say, no, you don't.

But, for something that we love? There is almost no limit to what we will do.

Don't have the money? We WILL find the money.

Don't have the time? We WILL make the time.

Don't know how to do it right? We WILL learn.

And we WILL do it as often as we can, because we love it. And we will tweak it, and we will continue to perfect it, or as close to perfection as we can make it.

All that said, is it possible I'm looking at this the wrong way?

To me, doing what I love IS work. But, do I actually feel like I'm working? When I'm behind my camera, engaging my subject, capturing those beautiful images, does it feel like work? Or, how's about when I'm in the midst of an intense battle in Overwatch, and my "hero" is wrecking my opponents, is that work? What about when I'm getting my chef on in the kitchen, or when I connect with great folks? Does any of that feel like work? No. None of it feels like work.

Was this what the saying was all about? Was this the lesson that the saying was trying to teach me all along? Does that mean, I've been jerky all this time, and I need to take back the bullshit comments I made earlier?

Probably. But, since I am jerky, I think I'll leave them up there. Maybe Ill get into a rousing discussion with someone over it.

Yeah, I think I'd love that :D
