THE HEADSHOT EXPERIENCE....

Hate getting your picture taken? I've got you.

One thing I've noticed in a lot of photographs taken by the inexperienced, is that their subject are either lit wrong, posed badly, or have an uncomfortable look on their faces. In some extreme cases, it's a combination of all above. I think this is a primary reason folks feel they don't photograph well, and that feeling can have a negative affect on one's self esteem. I know because I was in that same place....until a talented photographer took my picture, and showed me what I really looked like. I took that experience with me, and it informs my approach to photographing others. Let's look at what it takes to make your headshot experience an incredible and fun one....

First off, I want to talk with you about your headshot needs. Ideally, we should have this discussion at least (2) weeks before your session. I know this feels like a long time just for headshots, but we are talking about one of the most powerful tools in your self promotion/ marketing toolbox; getting it right the first time means you won't have to make time, or pay again to do it over.

For your safety during this challenging time, I offer one AM session, and one PM session by appointment only. These sessions are gapped so nobody will be gawking at you while you get your photos taken, nor will you feel pressure to get the session done as quickly as possible (unless you need to). The more comfortable you are, the better the session goes, and ultimately, we get better images out of it.

"How long does a session take"? Well, that all depends on the what is needed and how the session flows. A medical student applying for a residency, may need only 30 minutes (if that), while an aspiring actor may need an hour or 2.  All that said, I won't keep you there any longer than you need to be.

The part of the headshot session that takes time, and is the most important ingredient, is your posing and expression. This, is my responsibility. As we move through the session, I will be directing you into poses and lighting you purposefully. Some of the posing you do will feel odd, maybe even uncomfortable at times. But trust me when I say, the more weird it feels, the more right it's going to look.

Once or twice through the session, we'll stop and look at some images we've taken; this is the time where we decide if something is working for you or not. If there's anything you want to change, we make those corrections on the spot. The goal of course is to get those images that will have you looking confident, approachable, and ready to take on whatever challenge comes your way, whether its on the stage, or the boardroom. As the distinguished Mr. Haysbert has said many times before, "You're in good hands".

At the end of the session, we'll review all of the great images we shot. From there, you'll pick and purchase your favorite shots to be edited and retouched. If you need some help in deciding, I'll give as much or as little input as you need on what the best shots are (sometimes, it's nice to have an opinion other than our own in what we look like).

How you go on to rule the world is up to you....
